When searching for a business on Google, you may notice a box with information about it on the right side of the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). How can you get your business to show up?
Showing Up on the Google Knowledge Panel
When you search for Husaria Marketing, you may see the Knowledge Panel Card shown above. The information in that box helps potential customers discover your business and enables them to get into contact with you. Depending on the information you provide to Google, it can show your address, phone number, your hours of operation, reviews, and a link to a relevant page.
There is no guarantee that your business will show up in the knowledge panel (let us know if ours does for you!), but you can certainly take steps to increase your odds. Like the results to the left on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), whether or not your business shows up in the knowledge panel is determined by Google’s confidential algorithm. Relevance to the search topic, physical distance from the location, as well as prominence of the business all play a part as to whether or not you will show up.
While you can’t guarantee that you will show up, there are steps that you can take to increase your chances. First, you want to get your business verified. After you create your Google My Business page, you can enter your address and request verification. Google will send you a postcard with a code to confirm your address, and your business will be verified.
Knowledge Panel Considerations
Depending on your industry, there can be quite a lot of competition to get on the Knowledge Panel. The above example shows a search for a local Italian restaurant, and you can see what kind of results can be expected. There are a few ways to improve your results, after you’ve completed your location verification.
The first and most important task is to complete your business information. Fill in all of your business information into Google My Business, making it clear to customers where you are, what you do, and when you are open. Provide your physical address, phone number, photos of your location, and the industry your business is in. It is also critical that you keep this information up-to-date.
Google offers users the ability to review your business as well. You should encourage your customers to write reviews, and responding to reviews shows you are active and value feedback. Google even gives some tips for responding to reviews!
What Are Your Next Steps?
There’s no way to guarantee your placement on the Knowledge Panel card, but following SEO best practices can go a long way to increasing your visibility and driving new clients through inbound marketing. Husaria Marketing has the knowledge and experience you need to maximize your visibility online, and Knowledge Panel cards are just a small part of a successful online marketing strategy.
